Christmas Memories

Posted by: Marcelle

xmas1It’s that time again, when the snow starts falling and the house gets it’s decorative look.  And that got me thinking about Christmas’s past.

As I shared with you last year, when I was about 6 years old, my mom made me start buying gifts for all my brothers and sisters, as well as mom and dad.

But there were other ways to give a gift that I was reminded about the other day.   You see, one of my early Christmas’s I’d been given a Wood Burning Kit.  It included a number of sketches on pieces of balsa wood, a very soft wood that you could use your wood burner on.  And oh, how I loved that wood burner.  I am sure I spent all of Christmas day burning my way through the art work they supplied.

And the next Christmas, I gave a number of art works that I had made to various family members.  My sister Theresa (far left) received a wood burnt owl, glued onto a piece of dark wood paneling.  Yes sir, I was pretty proud of that.

The reason I remember is that she, Theresa, recently gave me back that piece of art.  Said that I might appreciate it.  She had kept it all those years.  Which is pretty amazing because that was over 40 years ago.

And that made me wonder, how many gifts would be kept that long if we had just bought something at Wal-Mart?  It is kind of cool, when you think about it, eh?

So here’s wishing you and all your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and lots of great memories.

Tony
