{"id":1428,"date":"2010-10-04T12:40:53","date_gmt":"2010-10-04T19:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/awakeningpotentials.com\/?p=1428"},"modified":"2014-12-17T08:48:37","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T13:48:37","slug":"calcium-is-calcium-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kanatachiropractic.com\/?p=1428","title":{"rendered":"Calcium is Calcium, right?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had a\u00a0 client the other day who asked my why the calcium supplement she was taking wasn&#8217;t as good as the one I recommended.\u00a0 Her calcium was 1,000 mg of\u00a0 calcium.\u00a0 My recommended type of calcium was only 400 mg if calcium.<\/p>\n<p>I can understand her concern as osteoporosis is a major factor in the elderly.\u00a0 Broken hips are a leading cause of death due to the\u00a0 blood clots that result, not to mention broken ankles and fractured vertebrae.<\/p>\n<p>We need calcium, but there is a difference between one type of calcium and the next.\u00a0 It is not what is written on the bottle that makes for a good calcium, and the packaging, while it may be very attractive has nothing to do with how good it is for you.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right,\u00a0 dose and fancy packaging mean very little to your body.\u00a0 What does count is the calcium&#8217;s bio-availiblity, or is it an absorbable form of calcium.\u00a0 I have seen most forms of calcium in the drug stores and health food stores to be of an inferior type of calcium.\u00a0 Typical absorption rates by the body are from 1% to 5%.\u00a0 That means that when you take 1000 mg of calcium, you are really only taking between 10 mg and 50 mg.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t get fooled by the price tag.\u00a0 As a rule, more expensive supplements tend to be better, but not always.\u00a0 You need to ask someone who knows, and that may not be the clerk at the local store.<\/p>\n<p>But that is a lot like life, isn&#8217;t it.\u00a0 &#8220;Seperating the wheat from the chaff&#8221; as the expression goes is more important these days than ever.\u00a0 This is oh so true when it comes to nutritional supplements, but I have found that it applies to many areas of life.<\/p>\n<p>When people want to empower thier lives, reach goals, and breakthrough their barriers, there are lots of avenues out there.\u00a0 But once again, what is all hype and what really works.\u00a0 That is why we are hosting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kanatachiropractic.com\/test\/getunstuckvideo.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Get Unstuck<\/a> workshop on October 14 in Ottawa.\u00a0 Come and check out what we have to offer, and then decide for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Brunelle<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had a\u00a0 client the other day who asked my why the calcium supplement she was taking wasn&#8217;t as good as the one I recommended.\u00a0 Her calcium was 1,000 mg of\u00a0 calcium.\u00a0 My recommended type of calcium was only 400 mg if calcium.
