Anxiety – The Practice of Failure (in advance)

Anxiety is fear about fear.  That is to say, it is being afraid of your worst fears coming true.  Mark Twain of Tom Sawyer fame said he spent 90% of his life worrying about things that never happened.  And that is what we all do, we worry, we are afraid that our fears will come true.  Such an energy drainer and all that energy devoted to our anxiety has a power, a power to manifest “that which I feared most” as Job in the old testament said.

But I would like to suggest that anxiety is nothing more than a bad habit.  And habits can be broken.  The first step is to realize that you choose to worry, to become afraid, to become anxious about what may come.  Most things we worry about never come and the ones that do materialize, well, you just take them one day at a time.

So next time you find yourself paralayzed with anxiety, stop and realize that you are choosing to worry about what ever topic it is that is giving you such grief.  Then purposely change your thought patterns.  Find something else to think about. Something a little less toxic.

I have found that you can cut your worry level in half almost instantly when you stop yourself this way.  And we all have something to worry about, be it finances, love or health.  So this applies to all of us, not just some of us.

How deep are your worry programs embedded also determines how well you can take control of your worry mechanism.  We were all imprinted, for lack of a better word, as early as our time from conception to our birth and beyond.  How did your parents, and mother in particular handle  your pregnancy?  But despite all the imprinting that you may have had, it is possible to release these limiting thought patterns quickly and painlessly. NET or Neuro Emotional Technique is one way, and another is the upcoming “Get Unstuck” workshop  in Ottawa.

But whatever you do, do something and don’t let your fears stop you from living the life you were meant to have.  So tell me dear reader, what are your thoughts about anxiety and fears?
