Home is a symbol that stretches in many directions.
“Home is where the heart is.” “Home sweet home.” “There’s no place like home.” “You can’t go home again.”
But more than that, it’s a physical location that captures the intangible aspects of our lives, and in a very concrete way – often without our realizing the representation.
Some people say that, in your dreams, the home is a symbol for your body. So when you feel sick, tired, or stressed, those emotions come through; for example, a house full of ants means you’re under too much pressure.
I’ve heard about these dream insights; maybe they’re true, maybe not.
What I can say for sure is this: in my actual house – the one I clean every spring and shovel around every winter – the life I’m experiencing is definitely represented.
My home reflects what’s important – like family, relaxation and a passion for work, but it also reflects my health. When it’s messy, I feel tired. When it’s clean, I feel awake. For me, as soon as I become run down, so does my house.
That’s why it’s vital to keep a clean house. Sure, things can’t always be spotless, but you’ll be amazed at what a difference a quick tidying up can accomplish. Your mood will sky rocket, clouds will part, the sun will shine . . . well, there may not be such a change in weather, but a load does lift from your shoulders.
Here is a good website produced by Bissell: http://www.bissellshealthyhome.com/home.php Bissell occasionally promotes their vacuum and cleaning products, but mostly it’s a fun way to be reminded about which parts of the home need weekly or biweekly attention.
How do you feel your home represents you? Does it represent your mind, your body, or both? Are there things you’d like to change in your home to reflect the changes in your life?
We’d love to hear your comments. Please do share.
Till next time!
